Galaxy tab, the future for SMEs?

Untitled-171

As far as I am concerned, having a laptop with you when going to a meeting has become a necessary evil. Every time I go to a conference or arrange to meet up with a client, I sigh in despair because of the realization that I have to carry that heavy laptop bag along. My laptop is my life and the soul of my business, so I have come to accept the reality that I have bring it along to every single meeting I am attending. I do not have a problem with it per say, my only problem is with its portability. I’m sure just like me, many of you out there also dread dragging along your laptops, with its extra cords, and sometimes even a portable hard drive for backing up those sensitive files.

So when a colleague of mine recently showed up at a meeting with this small gadget, it naturally caught my attention, and curiosity. As I typed short notes on my laptop, so did he, effortlessly. So during the tea break I approached him and asked him what the gadget was and some of the features it has.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is an Android-based tablet computer produced by Samsung and was introduced late September 2010 and has since taken over the tablet-computing segment of the market. This particular Samsung Galaxy Tab had a 7-inch TFT-LCD touchscreen, Wi-Fi capability, and supported SIM telephone functionality through speakerphone, or through an optional wired earpiece or Bluetooth earpiece.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a sleek machine that has a sophisticated feel to it, and its performance is unmatched in its class too. It comes with a 1.0GHZ, 500mb RAM core that gives it just enough horsepower to run all your favorite apps, and watch your movies plus music on the go. My other main concern was with its battery life, since it did seem a little too slim to accommodate a large powerful battery, but to my surprise Samsung claims that its 4000 mAh battery will give it 7 hours of video playback or 10 hours of talk time. That is pretty impressive for any gadget.

I decided to ask him to let me try out his small machine to get a feel of how it works, and yes it had amazing functionality as he had mentioned. It even comes pre-installed with all our favorite typing and note taking apps, and music players. On the web performance front, I especially liked the YouTube application that quickly gets you access to the video site, and its WiFi adapter properties, that can quickly get into any available WiFi network.

However this gadget has a downside to it, this is that no matter how sleek it may appear, it still can’t out-perform a modern ordinary laptop on any given day. The thing about laptops is that they are built to deliver horsepower to let you work on several windows open at the same time, this is not a characteristic the tabs are even close to achieving.

All in all, it is a powerful tool to assist you in all your day to day running of business, and perfect go-to-meeting companion. With the release of the new generation tabs in the very near future, we are looking at a whole new world of tech-toys that will blow our minds.

In the end I did fancy the idea of having a Samsung Galaxy Tab to supplement my old beloved laptop.
