Shiro for a day

Untitled-194

I really don’t find organizing that hard, actually I love to organize. Its Thursday morning and its work as usual, there is this event coming up and we are not very sure about it and am told hey your “shiro” for the day and so am supposed to do what shiro does(shiro was the former project manager, she was also in charge of writing articles, arranging and organizing events). I have to run to Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) and check the event out, am like oh dear(silently in my heart) I just come in I haven’t even finished an hour, anyway off I go. Its crazy back there, a lot of security check and when I go to the information desk they are like have you registered for the event online am like no, then am like is it possible for me to register now and they are like you have to talk to so and so and its quite a process and finally I get to register myself and the rest of the team and we are now looking forward to the big day.
Its 6:30 am and am in town ‘geez’ so we meet up and off we go, and am like so Nicole delegate the duties and she’s like no your shiro for the day… haha oh dear so the duties are out. Joe and Nicole are on the Camera, Pauline is on the still photos and I get to do the interviews.

We pass the security check and we are now trying to find a location where we can set up. There is so much wind up there and it’s hard to find a nice place where we can set up but finally we get a place and set up. Joe and Nicole are setting up and off we go with Pauline our separate ways to look for interviewees, we weren’t able to get as many interviewees since most of the exhibitors were just employee’s and not the actually owners of the company but at the end of the day we manage to grab a few SMEs.

It’s my first time on this new duty at work but am not scared, actually am very confident and I feel like I have been doing it for ages. Back at school on different projects I used to like interviews more and especially the vox pox interviews. Am loving every minute of it and actually I will be shiro for quite a long time now. I love camera but not as much as interviews I mean I love talking to people more and Joe keeps on telling me that I have a lot of questions… Joe its part of a good quality of an interviewer.

Its lunch time, so we pack up and head downstairs for lunch. Everyone is enjoying lunch I can see and Joe who claims to be very poor in eating fish get some lessons from Nicole who is from the lake and as he picks out clean the bones you can tell he is a good student. We are eating at the same time discussing how the shoot went; Pauline looks happy and am glad she is. Its good working together with this team, there is group photo and we call it a day.

I don’t know about you, but as for me I love what I do and I love the media industry. Sometimes I look back and wonder… I don’t think I would have done it better in another industry. My heart is where I am now and this is just the beginning.
