Kenya association of women business owner’s breakfast meeting

Untitled-176

It’s Wednesday morning, on my way to the Kenya Association of Women Business owner’s breakfast meeting (KAWBO). I used a very different route thinking that at that time of the morning I would not be caught up in traffic but boy was I wrong! To make matters worse I had to alight at Yaya center and walk up to Kilimani. I arrived at the meeting location (Gracia gardens) and met Sharon, the lady at the registration desk and the first question I asked her was if the meeting had started and she replied in the negative pointing out that they were still having breakfast. She handed me a tag and directed me to the restaurant. Continue reading

Learning about equality and self confidence

Untitled-177

Treat others fairly in word or deed, and also look after yourself in the same manner.
We had gone to cover an event and at their registration we met two ladies who asked us for our press cards, one was friendly but the other one was the total opposite. I tried to explain our predicament and one of the ladies seemed to understand and asked me for my card and quickly prepared our entry cards. The other lady was anything but helpful, and I do believe it was because we looked so young. Now say, we were vindictive people and gave the whole event bad press as a result of one lady with a lot of attitude, wouldn’t that be unfortunate. Continue reading

Everything has a beginning

Untitled-189

Its Friday morning, the team and I are on our way to Donholm to interview Bernard Onyango Oduori, owner of Mareva Interior Decorators. There is a bit of traffic but we manage to get there in good time. There are soo many people, vehicles and businesses. Everyone is busy doing their own thing; the sun is out today which has been rare with the heavy rains in the past weeks. It’s a beautiful day. Wow! I couldn’t believe my eyes! The place looked like a home and not a shop. The beautiful seats filled the place. Coaches of every color, green, pink, blue, red were there. There was one seat that I couldn’t help looking at, a beautiful green sofa set. If I had cash with me right away men!! I wouldn’t have left the place without that seat. Continue reading

A day in the field

Untitled-191

Its one o’clock in the afternoon and we are on our way to korogocho for some SMEs interviews. Korogocho is a slum area and we are kind of worried of our equipment’s, but either way we proceed. We arrive at the designated place and we meet Vitalis, one of the SMEs and who also happened to give us a tour of the place. The team is not worried now, Vitalis is from Korogocho born and breed so he knows the area well and he is also well known so its safe being with him. Continue reading
