Kumekucha Event

Untitled2

Kuza Biashara in partnership with African Creative Hub & a few other like-minded organizations, conducted a Kumekucha Initiative to celebrate 50 years of Kenya’s Independence and to support young creatives in informal settlement. Through this initiative, monthly events are targeted at masses of the underserved and the less exposed creatives, innovators, upcoming young artisans that reside in the informal settlements of Nairobi .

The current state of desperation, lack of hope, affection amongst the youth in the informal settlements has led to them into being prey and easy targets of many of the vices that are sporadically spreading. However many of the young creative minds have a yearning to learn, be inspired, talked to and engage with others who have or are working in the field of the creative and cultural industries. This monthly forum will provide that platform, and give hope, direction and affection to persons who are already dealing with major basic survival issues.

The first of such events was conducted at the Kenya Cultural Centre Ukumbi mdogo, on 20 April 2013, was well attended and hugely successful. Kuza Biashara brought to the Event 25 Mentors with diverse backgrounds who shared their life journeys/stories and challenges with the Mentees. Coaching, Advisory & Mentoring is at the core of Kua Biashara and this event was the right platform for the Mentees to reach out to the Mentors. Each Mentee got an opportunity to showcase their immense talent and also spend time with the Mentors, get invaluable advice and direction to their dream. Infact a handful of youth also were registered for Agency by one of the Mentoring Companies, which could help these Youth to set their journey towards Entrepreneurship. “Juliani”, an award winning, ascending star of and beyond the Kenyan music scene graced the occasion. Other Partners in the Kumekucha initiative are Home Boyz | Nairobi 2:0 | Pawa 254 | Fountain Media | Wilart productions

The monthly event would henceforth be held at the National Museums in commemoration of 50 year jubilee Independence and would be specifically targeted towards residents from Nairobi’s major slums.
