SocialPro Clubs Kenya

Untitled-89

The launch of the SocialPro Clubs that was organised by socialedge Africa took place on 25th October 2012 at Nairobi. SocialPro Clubs aims at teaching, educating, creating awareness, and imparting knowledge and skills of the social media to the university students.

The Event Partners included Kuza Biashara, Ministry of Information Communication & Technology, University of Nairobi, and socialedge Africa. The guest speakers included Dr. Bitange Ndemo, PS, Ministry of Information and Communication, Cynthia Nyamai, MD, Cynthia Nyamai Communications, Joan Mbugua, Partnership and Alliance Manager, Kuza Biashara, Waithera Ng’ang’a, CEO, Marketing Society of Kenya, and Maryanne Wanjiku, Social Media Manager, Safaricom.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bitange Ndemo exhorted students to avail opportunities as and when they find any — for this was the time to explore and exploit those opportunities. He asked students to think differently, and if they needed any assistance or help from him, they were always welcome.

Cynthia Nyamai also asked students to make use of the available opportunities to develop themselves and progress. She suggested that they make use of the new media and utilize it to avail business opportunities and make money. The whole wide world was open for them to market their products.

Waithera Ng’ang’a informed the gathering that school children had forgotten libraries altogether and switched over to the internet for any kind of information that they required — using Google, Yahoo, or some other websites. She said that the social media was all about creating and building relationships and connecting to your brand. Society has changed and it was not the same society that was there about 50-60 years ago. Children of today had become very smart and were using modern applications such as smartphone and tablets.

Joan Mbugua urged students to use the new technology that was available to them. She suggested that if they could not understand something they should find out from Google. Many of the modern free applications that are available are user-friendly and easy to use.

Maryanne Wanjiku said that more and more people were becoming tech-savvy and the number of people using smartphones in Kenya has increased rapidly.

The event came to a close with all the participants cutting a cake.
