How far are you with those resolutions?

"How far are you with those resolutions?"
"How far are you with those resolutions?"

As is the tradition in most countries in the world, on the eve of every year, we gather our thoughts and draw up these resolutions and vow to have them complete before the year ends. For the month of January, most are quite on track to completing these set goals. The fire to keep going soon starts to die down, and by mid-march, these resolutions don’t seem to take that much preference in our lives like when we started them out.
However during the months of June, reality starts to sink in that the year is indeed coming to an end, and most of us revisit these goals to salvage what we can of whatever we set out to accomplish. We then set out new targets and timelines to meet our original resolutions with much rejuvenated energy. Then comes the month of August, and the fire once again starts to die down, and we do what we know best, which is the art of procrastinating. We start to push deadlines forward and make very credible arguments in our heads, to justify not doing the set agenda.

By the month of October, we no longer find need to even justify our actions of not attempting to complete these set out goals. We simple don’t care about that any more. I know a lot of us can relate to that, and have come to accept this as a way of life.

I however dispute this fact very much because I believe every goal and resolution made at the start of this year had a lot of thought process behind it, and they were made to satisfy a particular need. Procrastination has and will always be the mother of disaster and failure. It is a hard habit to kill, because we we have become so addicted to it, that it has come to be accepted as a way of life.

The first step in getting rid of this dreadful habit is by drawing clear deadline on your calendar or diary, and clearly defining measures to be taken if you don’t achieve that which you have set out to do. Practicing this will surely give you good tidings, and assist you to overcome the procrastination bug, and in the process make you achieve those set out new years resolutions.

It starts with you here and now, don’t let this be another year where those set goals will yet not be achieved; we still have three months to year end, and those are by far ample time to finish up on your resolutions.
