A leaf from my Kenya diary

When I was informed at a short notice that I would be going to Kenya, to work on a project, I had mixed feelings. On one hand, it would be the first time ever that I would be leaving home for so long. On the other hand, it was a great opportunity for me to travel to another continent, interact with Government officials in Kenya, and be exposed to a new way of life.

It is not just my Bullet that gives me starting troubles, my journey did too. I missed my connecting flight at Doha, and was stranded at the airport for hours; I then managed to convince the airline officials to send me to Dubai, from where I went to Nairobi. The next day, I went to our Kenya office for the first time and was pleasantly surprised to see my new colleagues giving me a warm welcome! It felt great to be part of a brand new set of people, with interesting ideas and perspectives. I work with them on a daily basis today, and it has been fantastic, to say the least.

Another memorable part of my stay here so far, has been my visit to the Nakuru town, where I got some first-hand experience of how our work in India is implemented here, and how it impacts lives here in Kenya. More often than not, working out of an office only gives one perspective that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The real world out here, with people from varied walks of life, with different stories to share, offers the real learning experience. This experience was one of its sorts, especially interacting with grass root-level people, in a different continent!

There have been days when I have craved for the familiar smell of my room, the warmth of my family and friends, and being in a familiar terrain. There have been days when I have longed for company; but the thought of returning home few months hence, as a more accomplished person only ensures that I continue to give my best here.

This is a leaf out of my Kenya Diary!
