I sometimes go to a conference and feel like it was a break from the routine of the office or just another social event that I am attending.
Over time I have however learned a few tips though on how powerful networking is at a business conference or event. The business opportunities that arise from networking are numerous and at times unexpected but very welcome. As such I make it a point to carry my business cards to every event I attend, you never know where you may strike gold.
Over time I have however learned a few tips though on how powerful networking is at a business conference or event. The business opportunities that arise from networking are numerous and at times unexpected but very welcome. As such I make it a point to carry my business cards to every event I attend, you never know where you may strike gold.
So here are a few tips that I have to share on networking.
- Research about the conference and find out if it is of relevance to you and or your business.
- Document the goals you wish to achieve when attending a conference. This helps you to be clear on the kind of people you want to spend more time with during a business event or conference.
- Being outgoing is a plus for successful networking. Some of the components that add up to successful networking are; taking time to properly introduce yourself, exchanging business cards and even sharing a warm smile. Keep in mind that in networking itgoes beyond a warm smile and superficial introductions. Ensure you have done your homework so that you may be on almost equal footing with other attendants.
- The essence of a business conference is measured by what you do when you leave the conference room. Follow up is the key. For all the business contacts that you establish in a conference, ensure you reach out to them one by one. Establishing a database is a commendable, but using the contacts there in is a must if your networking is to have any positive impact.
- Staying in touch with your contacts helps you explore more on possible partnership areas.
- Lastly, seek to network with people that will be of benefit to you eventually but with whom you canalso be beneficial to. It is in giving that you receive.
