Erick Ngondi’s Story of Seeing Beyond Blindness Is a Must-Read

Erick Ngodi Teaches Us How To Convert Our Down-Moments to High-Moments

Like most of us, Erick was a hardworking student. He passed his KCSE exam in flying colors and was lucky to be admitted to one of the most prestigious universities in Kenya for a course in Environmental Science. Unfortunately (or fortunately to some extent), Erick lost his eye-sight through a violent robbery. He was fired from his first job all because he had become visually impaired.

That moment when you feel like giving up

At that point, he felt like giving up. He was running out of energy. He felt like the whole world was running against him. For a moment, he was tempted to hate himself; but something deep inside him told him to keep pressing on.

Amidst all these challenges he rolled up his sleeves and decided to take on his challenges – head on. He started a consultancy firm that deals with issues of environment impact assessment. That is how Erick started his journey to stardom.

Erick’s future is really bright

He was recently nominated for the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI). YALI is a flagship of President Obama (President of the United States). It is an initiative that aims to identify young individuals who have the potential to change the course of Africa.

In his own words “If you think I am here because I’m blind I think you’re totally wrong. I’m here because I stand for a vision, I stand for a passion, and my passion is that all people out there have the potential, capability and resilience to stand all the mud that the world is likely to throw unto them.”

In the video below, Erick Ngondi talks to Kuza Biashara’s founder and chief mentor Mr. Sriram Bharatam on his resolve to look at the world from a positive angle and his blossoming entrepreneurial spirit. Share your ONE WORD message to Erick Ngondi via the comment box.
