The UN Freedom Online Experience

Untitled-109

Nairobi is one of the very lucky cities to host an arm of the UN at the Gigiri complex United Nations office at Nairobi (UNON). One of the fundamental principles that the UN is built upon is core human rights. With this, it played host to the freedom online conference, a forum bringing together world governments, diplomats, and NGOs to deliberate on the ways to have more rights of expression and protection being realized for the online community. An adventurous day out at work

An adventurous day out at work

>It was early June when I had just joined the Kuza Biashara family as a marketing IBC from the Kisii region. I was meeting SMEs here and there in the market, educating them about about Zidisha Biashara,a product of Kuza Biashara and Safaricom. Each and everyday as I was meeting different SMEs, they could give me a reason to carry on with the product. All of them were interested and willing to take the product because it gives them an expansion chance in their businesses. Continue reading

Working at Kuza Biashara

It all started off on August 25, 2011, when I received a call from a person who worked for Safaricom Limited at Meru Retail Shop. I was then in a matatu on my way to Nanyuki for a family function, and this call really left me in a state of confusion. Well, the job description was a bit not appealing since it would only take a week. The most complicated part was that I was supposed to be in Meru in 30 mins time. Now that I was almost arriving in Nanyuki I didn’t know what to tell the person on line. Should I tell him I was far from town, it would mean that I would automatically lose the chance. Again, the job would only take a few days. I took time and listened to my conscience and felt the urge to go for it. I told him that I would take 1 hour and 20 minutes since commuting back would take an hour. He agreed and that is how I got connected to Florence Mbatia from Kuza Biashara. Continue reading

The early bird special

The early bird special

Ithink I have been a premature baby (though am yet to confirm with mother) because I have always held dear the art of excellent time keeping. I like to live by the virtue that if you are five minutes early, you are late and have often wished that time keeping would be turned into an olympic sport as I bring home the gold every time. The base of the corporate pyramid

Untitled-121

Let’s first get to understand what pyramid we are talking about, lest you assume we are talking about the pyramids of Egypt. The pyramid we are discussing here is a hierarchy that shows how organizations are placed in terms of market share and presence. The top of this pyramid consists of large corporates that have excelled in their fields and have cut for themselves a considerable market share that is sustainable. Down below is the base that predominantly consists of SMEs and medium sized business. This group at the bottom or at the base of this pyramid, is characterized by many start-ups and thousands of businesses in their early growth stage. Continue reading
