10 Ways to Cope with Stress in Business

Running your own business can be stressful. You have too much on your desk, there are deadlines looming ahead and people are depending on you. You are under so much pressure that sometimes you feel that you may not be able to give your best. This is a very common scenario in the workplace and if you are falling prey to stress here are some proven tips for defeating stress.

#1. Take some minutes away from work to do something interesting

It doesn’t matter what it is but if you do something that interests you, it has been found that it not only relieves your stress, but actually replenishes your energy. Here the word ‘ interesting’ does not necessarily mean just ‘relaxing’.

The activity you choose should light up your eyes with pleasure and interest. Only then will you feel re- energized. If you are interested in those great photos your cousin posted on Facebook. Have a look, they might ease of the stress.

#2. Try to have a set routine – It dramatically reduces stress

The President of the United States himself endorsed this. If you have daily routines in place you don’t’ have to waste time on trivial decisions. You may not know it, but making decisions is one of the most powerful and pervasive causes of stress.

Every time you make a decision you cause a state of mental tension, which is stressful. The solution here is to reduce the number of decisions you have to make by using routines. So routinize yourself. Have a  routine for preparing for the day in the morning and also when leaving for home in the night.

#3. Be kind and compassionate to yourself

You don’t need to be hard on yourself to perform your best. When you err, remember it’s only human. So don’t be harsh on yourself or don’t get defensive.

When things seem at their most difficult, treat yourself with a dose of self compassion- it helps remarkably to reduce stress. In fact you tend to becomes more optimistic and perform better when you give yourself some self-sympathy.

One of the most effective ways to boost your emotions, motivate you and also change the way you look at a workday, is to think about the progress you have already made and the meaningful work you have contributed.

Over generalizing and taking things personally can lead to negative thought patterns. The solution is to re-frame these patterns into positive thinking. Negativity leads to stress symptoms.

To cope with these use proven relaxation tips like taking deep breaths, imagining soothing pleasant scenes, or having small meditation breaks.

#6 .Share your distress with some one

When you feel that you simply can’t function with the stress weighing upon you, the best thing you can do is talk it out with someone who is close to you. It is often the best stress reducer if you simply share your stress.

You not only blow off steam and simultaneously reduce stress but you will also gain the support and sympathy of people whom you trust.

#7. Don’t toil for perfection

No one can be perfect. If you start to obsess over perfection, you will be creating a lot of unnecessary stress for yourself. If you want to micromanage and ensure that everything is perfect, you need to stop.

On the other hand do your best and if it’s not perfect, you’re human, only God can be absolutely perfect. Moreover worrying about your ability to be perfect makes you much more likely to fail.

# 8. See the funny side

Laughter is a great stress buster, so when you find yourself in a situation where everything seems to be turning terribly serious and your stress is mounting, try to look for humor in the situation.

Try to break through with laughter. The best you can do is share a funny story or joke and ease the pressure.

#9 De- Clutter

Are you feeling that you are losing control and stress is gaining the upper hand? Do some physical organization to fight it. If your desk or workspace is cluttered, fight through this clutter.

Taking some calm time to organize your corner of the office can help ease the stress. Moreover too much clutter around you is a stress inducer by itself. Maintaining a to-do list, and crossing things done off the list, also help reduce stress.

# 10 Let Go of things you can’t control- Have self belief

When you come across things you can’t control, just accept them. This will allow you to control the amount and nature of pressure you feel.

A positive belief in your self will boost your morale and make you a better performer. Instead of stumbling at every road-block, take small steps that will lead you to the goal.
