20 Revealing Habits That Differentiate Entrepreneurs From The Rest of Humanity

Entrepreneurs are a blessed lot of people. They create jobs, solve society’s problems and most importantly open doors of opportunities for everyone.

Indeed, a country that has more entrepreneurs than job-seeker is poised for better economic times. It all starts with a dream, the dream gradually matures into an idea – and then the idea blossoms into an empire.

These are the 20 unique habits which if you posses (at least 5 of them) you should know that you were indeed born to be an entrepreneur.

1.You love to learn new things

You are naturally curious, always on top of what’s happening around the country and the world at large. How-to guides and tutorials are your cup of coffee.

2.You aren’t afraid of hard work

You are always willing to dedicate more of your time to achieve better results in everything you do. You give everything in your life 100 percent.

3.You are always coming up with ideas

Good or bad, the ideas keep flowing. Some of the ideas you come up with are funny, others are downright stupid – but all the same, they are ideas.

4.You were one clever kid

Your early childhood memories comprise episodes of you selling stuff. Not necessarily because you were hungry for money, but because you found it wise to monetize your free time instead of spending the whole day playing kalongolongo.

5.You can’t sit still

You are always itching to come up with something, and do something great. Sometimes you may not even have a clue on what you want to start but an inner desire keeps pushing you.

6.You hate the status quo

You are a person who is always questioning why people do the things they do – and why they do them in a certain way. You strive to make things better by changing the very way people operate, coexist and reason.

7.You find yourself daydreaming quite often

You brain wanders into acres and acres of imaginations as you build castles in the air. You lose sleep in the middle of the night only to end up taking an imaginary journey of prosperity and success. Your thirst for success is real.

8.The word stability doesn’t exist in your dictionary

You are willing to forego stability so that you can actually look forward to each day and the opportunities it brings. You are absolutely willing to walk on the path least trodden. The ideas you are willing to pursue are more exciting than scary.

9.Your way of dressing betrays you

Your wardrobe mainly consists of t-shirts, a few khaki and jeans trousers that you probably got from Woolmart, Eastleigh or Ngara. You don’t like the idea of wearing suits and ties. The last time you wore a suit was during your graduation day.

10.Your sitting position at the restaurants betrays you

You recognize that the best seats at your favourite restaurants are the ones closest to the power outlets. Social places with wifi connectivity have an edge in your list of preferred hang-out joints.

11.You have a thick skin

You know all too well that when convincing investors to back you or customers to try out your produces, you might wind up hearing the word “NO” on a regular basis. You have trained yourself not to take in personally when a venture doesn’t go as planned.

12.A competitive spirit thrives within you

You look at products made by another manufacturer and you feel that you could have built them better. You strive to be better than everyone else around you and always aim to improve on your performance moving forward.

13.You hate being told what to do

Although you are not rude, you are resentful of being given direct orders on everything you do. You like to work under minimal supervision.

14.You don’t give up easily

You face tough challenges but keep going. You have failed many times in the past but every time you fall, you always rise up, dust off and march forward.

15.You create conversations with strangers

Strangers don’t intimidate to you. You easily strike conversations with people across the board. And while at it, you win their confidence, trust and camaraderie.

16.You find challenges in everything you do

Not that you are always whining about challenges but you identify them in good time and come up with a strategy to deal with them. You don’t easily settle in your comfort zone because you are always looking for new ways to challenge yourself.

17.Your work day is not over after you leave the office

Even if you are employed, you still do some hustles after the normal office hours. You spend most of your leave days pursuing some side hustles even if they pay much less than your monthly payslip.

18.You used your money wisely and creatively as a child

When your parents gave you some money to spend on yourself (e.g. pocket money), you did not use all of it to buy candy and stuff. You allocated it wisely and sometimes saved it to buy a long-term-use item. Sometimes you tried investing the money e.g. by rearing rabbits or poultry.

19.You excelled at group tasks

In class, you automatically took up leadership positions (even when not formally appointed by the school management). You were good at noting the strengths of your group members and delegating tasks.

20.You don’t take NO for an answer

True entrepreneurs don’t take a NO lying down. They negotiate, negotiate and negotiate. They convince, convince and convince…until they get the best out of every possible deal. And that’s exactly how you roll.
