Staying Ahead

Confrontation Can Be Tough But You Should Not Get Emotional!

While some of us do not shy away from putting our thoughts forward and being assertive, most of us worry a lot because we want to avoid confrontation. To be honest, right from the time you start coming up with new business ideas through your course of entrepreneurship, you will be faced with confrontation. It is how you take it that matters. If someone confronts you, the best thing to do would be to take it in stride and understand from where it is coming. The worst thing to do is getting emotional.

Yes, we know that is much easier said than done, which is why we are here to provide a few very useful lessons about dealing with confrontation strongly and not letting your emotions get the better of you.

Be Strong and Firm

The more you worry about it, the shakier you will be. That is why you should be strong about disagreeing or putting forth your point. Do not worry that someone will disagree and it will shape into an argument. A professional knows better than to turn everything into a fight. If, in the off chance, that it does turn into a fight, you just have to be strong enough to not take it personally. Even in these circumstances you just have to be strong and firm about your thoughts and ensure that the other person listens. Persistence is the key.

Know That You Are Within Your Rights To Ask For Something

If you are paying for a service or product you have every right to ensure that you get what you are looking for. If you are worried about hurting someone’s feelings while doing so, you are just doing it wrong. It won’t help your new business ideas materialize and it definitely won’t help with your business planning either. Understand at this point that the professional will not take it personally. Thus, you don’t need to worry about hurting feeling by asking something you are paying for!

If the person refuses to oblige you should start your work of choosing a vendor who is more open to opinion. There is no need to stick with someone who refuses to listen and only confronts rather brutally.

Do Not Apologize

The more you think about it, the more you will wreck your days and nights. The logic is quite simple: why should you compromise on new business ideas that you know are not good enough? Why should you settle for anything less? Communicate without stressing your mind about the aftereffects. If you want something changed, you should get it changed without feeling guilty or apologizing. You are doing nothing wrong!

Does confrontation cause you anxiety? Does it hinder your professionalism? What are your small business solutions for dealing with it? We would like to hear from you.

Entrepreneurial Learning

You may have numerous new business ideas but unless you realize you well within your power to implement them and have others work towards it, they won’t materialize. Your partner or a team member might want to do things differently, with the conversation ending up in confrontation. This is your time to rise and not get emotional about being disregarded.
