Identifying and Hiring Creative People in your Workplace

Creativity is crucial for every business to grow exponentially. How do you identify creativity though?

Creativity can be taught and nurtured but natural creativity is completely different. Innovation comes naturally for some people and such people are assets to any company. However you should understand that every coin has two sides; with the good comes the bad. Some creative people are difficult to manage, which is why you should be prepared to be patient with them.

Listed below are certain traits that help you identify creative people and make it easier for you to hire them:

  • Creative people are generally playful. They are also highly imaginative and have numerous different ideas. They are also quite committed to the tasks assigned to them.
  • Creative people have the drive to be original. They do not like being bound by rules and regulations. This encourages them to be rebellious when it comes to following commands. They do not like doing things that everyone else does. They want to stand out.
  • They are highly motivated. Creative people almost need to perform well and shine. They are determined to tackle even difficult issues with full concentration.
  • Creative people are highly ambitious as well and they always aim at recognition and attracting attention.
  • They are emotionally quite unstable. Sometimes, they are overcome by negative emotions and are not able to control themselves. Their mood fluctuates more often and they are difficult to deal with at times.
  • Creative people are also quite stubborn. They do not socialize as much because they are not very considerate. The have the habit of finding flaws in people and ideas that others come up with.

You will see that not all traits of creative people are positive. They are generally quite stubborn and do not like following rules. Will you be able to keep up with those traits as well? That is the question you should ask yourself before hiring creative people. Some of you might want to be flexible but in the long run it can get very taxing. Therefore you should weigh both aspects and hire people who are creative as well as skilled. Remember that not every creative person is a great performer. You need an all-rounder, not someone who is only creative but very stubborn and incorrigible.

Entrepreneurial Learning

When you assess creative people you will see that they have both good and bad traits. While the positives are amazing, you simply can’t ignore the negatives because they can cause a lot of trouble at later stages. Therefore it is ideal to hire someone who is creative and has been proven to be a great performer.
