Trying to do it immediately is not the way to go. Building a relationship will get you business.
Act like a kitten, experts say. A kitten runs to the vicinity of her goal at top speed but slows down after getting there and takes each step with care, biding her time, waiting for the perfect opportunity. This is what you should do when you want to seal the deal.
Take your Time – It Will be Worth It
Don’t rush into anything. You may, as an entrepreneur, believe that you should jump at every opportunity that presents itself to you. This is a common sight at conferences. As soon as the speaker finishes her speech, she is hoarded by a mob of people convincing her that they should connect immediately. Be different from the pack; be the feline and wait for your turn to make the move.
Consider the same scenario again. You are at en event and the speaker just got off the stage. People have started swarming her, each hoping that she would be able to help them. You know she can help you too but will you swarm her as well? No. You should wait and bide your time. Take a couple of weeks’ time and then shoot her an email offering to help her with one aspect of her business. Chances are high that you will get a positive response. This will help you get in touch, connect regularly, and then get help with your business.
Keep in touch and entice your client. Instead of jumping straight to the point spend some time establishing a connection and relationship. This could be anything from sending meaningful articles to congratulating her for an achievement. When you think the time is right, talk to the client and explain yourself. Things will work.
Entrepreneurs generally don’t accept the idea of waiting but it works wonders.
It is absolutely counterintuitive for an entrepreneur to bide his time and wait to make the right move. However, patience generally pays off spectacularly, which is why it is ideal to wait to make the move.
