Of course you are busy. Who isn’t? You simply can’t use that to not listen to your employees.
We all have our priorities but sometimes we get so caught up in tasks that we forget about a few vital aspects of business such as being there for our employees. This may not be urgent but that by no means insinuate that you can keep procrastinating it all the time. Talking to your employees and listening to them is actually very crucial for the smooth growth of business.
They Just Need a Shoulder Sometimes
A few problems and tasks can be tricky and dicey. You may find time to address the issue and offer suggestions but that is not what most employees look for. They are fully capable of fixing the problem by themselves and they are willing to do that as well. What they need from you is some empathy. They want to know that you understand what they are going through and how they are able to manage difficult situations. If you try providing solutions and then walk away, it will only annoy your employees and frustrate them further. They need nothing but a listening ear at times.
Take a Closer Look
While some employees will come to you with problems, others will be very afraid to do the same. It is your duty to take a closer look and assess the problems that employees may face. Train them, give them adequate resources, help them as and when the need arises, and stay close but don’t micromanage. Just give them the required push. That extra push will also serve as motivation for your employees to work better.
Everyone Needs Encouragement
Agreed that the top employees are always positive and self-motivated but that does not mean you don’t pay attention. Of course, you don’t have to check on them every week but if you neglect them for too long a period of time, their performance will likely come down. The best and the average alike need to know that you are paying attention. This is highly crucial. Pay attention to all employees to improve output substantially and to help them get more creative and innovative.
As the boss, it is up to you to ensure smooth running of the business. Your business will run smoothly only when you take care of your employees.
Do not neglect your employees just because you are busy and have urgent things and tasks to attend to. Employee motivation is vital for the growth and success of any enterprise.
