We have learnt a great deal about what customers want and how we should make them happy. We have, however, barely learnt about what they don’t want.
You can go on doing what your customers want but if you annoy them alongside they will still not buy from you. That is why it is very important to focus upon what your customers do not want. When you sell to a customer there are things he wants to hear and there are things he doesn’t. Unless you understand what these things are you won’t be able to make sales.
We live in a technologically advanced world and your customers are already well informed. In fact they know much more than you give them credit for. They do not want to know anything more. No matter what your product category may be, your customers will definitely have information about it. Hence, you should keep it simple.
“You can keep your opinion to yourself,” customers usually ache to say. You obviously think your company is the best in the world but that is solely your opinion. Customers do not care about your opinions. Hence, you should give them proof of what you believe in instead of sharing your opinions.
Why would you challenge your customers? They already have their personal challenges to face and they really don’t need you adding to them. Don’t give them a problem or challenge. Just help them.
Selling is your job. You want to sell. But, the moment your customers feel like you are selling to them, they will take ten steps away from you. If there is one thing that customers despise, it is being sold to. Customers prefer buying. They don’t like it when you push it. That is why you should make sure they listen to you and understand that you care about them. That is how things work in the sales industry.
Learn what customers don’t want from your business so that you understand them better and improve your sales.
In order to sell successfully you have to understand the likes and dislikes of your customers. Customers hate being given information, being challenged, being fed opinions, and being sold to. They like it knowing that you care about their requirements.
