Opportunity Obsession? Learn how to Overcome it

Opportunities knock on the door once in a while and we have to be open to welcoming them.

However, that does not insinuate that you become so obsessed that you keep jumping from one opportunity to the other. You are not the only one with this problem. There are many entrepreneurs who are known to chase opportunities fiercely. Thankfully, there is a way out.

Here is a step-by-step guide to help you through:

The Opportunity List

To overcome the fear of missing out on opportunities you should create your very own opportunity list. Most entrepreneurs are worried that if they don’t act upon a great idea immediately, they will forget it. Well, if that is your concern you can simply write the idea down so that it is recorded for the future. You won’t miss out on anything henceforth.

Evaluate

Now that you have a list of opportunities you should come up with a checklist. This checklist should contain all the criteria that your ideas or opportunities should fulfill in order to be considered for execution. Your checklist should very serious and honest. When you do this you will spend time only on those opportunities that are worth your time.

Don’t Act Immediately

Leaving everything and starting to work on a new opportunity is a flaw that many entrepreneurs are guilty of. From now on, make it a point to not act immediately and to simply ignore opportunities that require immediate action.

Go Stepwise

Don’t work on too many opportunities at the same time. Take one, see it through, and then pick the next one. This will keep you disciplined. Of course, you can choose the one that you think is most important first and then go ahead with it.

Avoid

Too many opportunities can actually be bad for you, which is why you should not go back to places that give you a bombardment of ideas. You can go there when you are short of ideas – if that ever happens.

If you are worried that by following these steps you will actually not have any ideas or opportunities to work on, you are wrong. This fear makes people act immediately. Instead, remember your checklist at times like this. You will have plenty of ideas to work on and to execute.

Entrepreneurial Learning

The world is full of opportunities; you just have to see them. Be assured that you will always have plenty of opportunities. This means that you don’t have to run behind opportunities all the time. Take a breath and work on one opportunity at a time.
