Almost every office has one employee who uses his anger and dominance to inflict fear in people and get his way. Such behavior can wreck the happy and calm environment of the workplace.

Other employees are generally worried and scared of this tyrant. Their productivity is also probably getting affected. What’s more, they may even be thinking about quitting their jobs! You can’t lose great employees because of one person who has anger issues.

This is why it is important to handle the tyrant before it is too late.

Here are tips to help you:

Empathize

Tyranny generally comes because people have issues. Tyrants usually have a deep sense of self-loathing and are angrier with themselves than the others. Therefore, you should try understanding and probably even try feeling bad for them. When you empathize you will actually feel better when the tyrant is around.

Let Go

Don’t let them affect you to such an extent that you actually feel miserable. Understand them further by realizing what triggers your fear, anger, and stress. Learn to slowly master those triggers so that they don’t bother you anymore. Of course it may take some time but it will definitely be worth it. In the end you will be benefitted because you will have more control over your feelings.

Don’t Act on your Temper

This is an extension of the previous point. Sometimes it is too hard to control your temper. Some things can seriously trigger your anger and at such times you end up acting on it. Tackling anger with anger will only make things worse for you. Tackle anger with calmness and you will be able to keep it cool. This is more of a skill but once you master it you will be able to handle tough situations peacefully.

Ask for Help

If none of the above tactics help you, you should consider talking to a third party member. It could be a friend or your mentor. Some unbiased advice will help you because you will have an all-new perspective.

Keep calm and tackle tyrants sensibly. Help your entire team work along the same lines.
