What’s in a name? A lot!
Your business’ name is your identity. This is why a lot of thought goes into coming up with the perfect name. However, it is not as difficult as portrayed by some people. Of course it takes some hard work and it may take a lot of time but in the end it is all worth the effort.
In order to cut to the chase and think of the right name, here are tips that you should keep in mind:
Make it Memorable
The name of your business should be easy to remember and easy to spell. It should not include jargon that people can’t understand. Finding a unique name will truly work in your favor but making it difficult in an attempt to make it unique will go against you.
People Should be able to Visualize it
When someone says the name or reads it, one should be able to relate it to something. Visualization will make the name memorable and easy to remember when needed.
It Should Connect Emotionally
Along with having a positive literal meaning or denotation, your business name should also have a positive emotional meaning or connotation. For example, dad is more emotionally connective than father. This means that the words or synonyms you use should have a positive impact instead of having a neutral or negative impact on the third person.
It Should Reflect what the Company Does
Your business name should be able to convey what you do. This is especially important for small businesses because you are not popular yet and your name should instantly connect your offerings to the reader/customer/potential customer.
Keep it Short
Short and sweet is the way to go. Company names should never be too long. Shorter names are easy to remember and even easier to promote. Your business name should look great on a sign, in an ad, and in your business card.
Keep these in mind and come up with at least two names for backup.
Your business name will be your face and that is why you should ensure it is the best there can be. Be sure to keep it short, meaningful, and positive.
