Experts say that being the brightest will not help you kindle your creativity. You need to be aware of circumstances around you to get innovative.

Having said that, here are a few tips for innovation to lead you in the right direction:

Understand your Competitors

The rule here is simple: How will you beat someone you don’t even know? Until and unless you understand your competitors and know what they are doing, you won’t be able to come up with ways to go past them. Thus, the first step towards breeding innovation is to get to know whom you are competing against.

Be A Good Listener

Customers are more than willing to let you know what they expect from you and whether you are living up to their expectations. Your job is to take the time out to listen to them. When you know what is the real problem you will be able to come up with ways to solve it. When you turn a deaf ear to what customers have to say, you will become stagnant with no growth at all.

Be Open to Opinions but Work Only With A Few

Diverse opinions will help you open your mind and truly find ways to innovate. This is why it is advisable to allow opinions from all directions. However, you shouldn’t accept each and everyone of them because they can confuse you and lead you into making the wrong decisions. Accept the opinions, work on them, and come up with ideas. Do not follow anything or anyone blindly.

Jot Down Your Ideas

Make it a point to put down each and every idea that comes into your mind. Note it in your phone or on your scribble pad but don’t let it escape. Such ideas, even if they seem frugal in the beginning, will help you make better decisions when the time comes. Refer to them every now and then when you feel stuck. You’ll find solutions that you never thought possible.


Sometimes, you don’t have to focus directly on finding solutions. Sometimes you have to look in the other direction for that awesome “Eureka” moment. Focus your attention on something else for a change, thus.
Innovation comes when you understand, listen, and track down your ideas. Innovation comes when you are aware.
