Know your priorities
In a situation of crisis or challenge, your instincts kick in and your decisions may be spontaneous. These may work well or also may not. In such case, it is better to know beforehand what your priorities are and set your boundaries. In crisis, these boundaries will help you make much wiser decisions and choices even if you are faced with challenges that are totally unexpected. Your priorities will help you come with a plan that will be most suitable for you.
Set an emergency Plan in Place
Perhaps you haven’t thought of an emergency plan yet, if you are running a business and if you don’t have one, here are tips on preparing one. Write down what can possibly go wrong with the project or a certain precarious situations and also what went wrong in the past. How was it handled and how will you plan to handle if it happens again. If you have no past reference, do a bit of research and find out how others have dealt with a similar situation. If you resist or fear the challenge, writing down a plan of action is a wonderful way to change negative thinking into something positive and tangible.
Begin from ground zero
Every experience you have undergone in running your business is important. So begin with every situation that came up where you faced the unexpected and how you handled it. See whether the approach which you used before, can be applicable to future situations and challenges. If you are a natural risk taker, and move to new projects often, this will work very well for you.
Follow Your Plan
When you are running a business, challenges are numerous and often unbidden. So if your website is down, who needs to know? Contact that person immediately. Who will you turn to when someone falls sick? Call them over at once. If your internet fails and you have to reschedule a client appointment, or if there is a power outage. Have people who deal with it on speed dial on your phone. Storing contact information somewhere accessible to key persons in your business or family, helps all round co-ordination. There are these and many more emergency measures which you can plan, and if done right, challenges won’t seem insurmountable.
The world of business and hectic modern day lives are bound to throw some challenges now and then. Knowing your priorities, having an emergency plan and following the plan during a crisis situation, will often make the process of running a business less daunting and will help you keep the situation under control. Learning from the past, researching the present and being prepared for the future will give you the upper hand at any given point of time.
