Here’s what the routine comprises:
Prepare by finding a quiet place. This place should have zero or minimal distractions. Thus, your desk and your car are not ideal locations. May be the balcony, though. Carry a journal and a pen and don’t forget your watch. If you are going to do this in the office you will have to arrive early.
First Minute: Calming your head
Clear your head and calm down. I won’t specify any exercise or activity for this. Do what works best for you. For example, you can clear your head just by turning the iPad and phone off. When I ask you to clear your head I want you to be present completely.
Second Minute: Breathe deeply to focus
I mentioned breathing because deep breathing deeply indeed helps you focus and relax. You breathe throughout the day but intentional breathing helps concentrate on what you are about to do. For this, you have to stop everything and just quietly. Watch your breath.
Third Minute to the Sixth: Write and draw
During these minutes, you may write or draw the first thoughts that came into your mind. May be an idea? May be something you could doodle? This will keep you calm while pondering on your thoughts. Don’t think about everything that you should do all day. Write/draw what is on your mind during these minutes. Remember to let the focus remain on thinking and not too much on writing or drawing.
Seventh Minute: Debriefing
Always allow yourself one minute to debrief. Debriefing means going through what you wrote or drew. Go through all your notes and make a very short plan within 30 seconds. Just pick up one task from all your ideas that you would like to act on. That’s all.
There you go. 7 minutes. Try the routine out for at least a couple of weeks and tell us how it helped you in business leadership skills or in driving profitability.
In order to increase profitability in business you must be able to start the day with positivity and focus. To do so, we have a great routine that takes only 7 minutes but delivers aplenty. Try it in order to spend your day well.
