There are tons of entrepreneurs who started off as freelancers. They liked working from the comforts of their home without the trouble of travel or time management. High speed Internet and excellent ways of communication have made freelancing an easy task. Freelancing comes with a plethora of advantages such as saving a lot of money that you’d otherwise be spending on the commute and on lunch at the office.
However, with the pros come the cons. With respect to freelancing the con is loneliness. We find various different ways to combat loneliness and the lack of social interaction but there is no denying that loneliness is evil. It can actually stunt your growth and mess with your head. While freelancing and starting up alone is a good idea you should make sure loneliness doesn’t wreck you.
Change your Location
There is no rule that you should be confined to the same four walls everyday. Make it a point to go to a new place to work at least once in seven days. The nearby coffee shop is a great idea! Drive, enjoy the weather, and relax your mind. That will not just help you beat loneliness but it will also fuel your creativity.
Listen to Music
Realizing that you are all alone can be really depressing. If you have soft music or serene sounds playing in the background as you work you will not realize that you are solitary. You will feel like you have someone with you and that will make you feel better.
You need accountability partners to keep sane. They may be working somewhere or they may be on their own just like you are but you should know that friends are treasures. Keep in touch with your accountability partners and meet with them every now and then so that you refresh and give yourself a break.
Social networks can prove to be your haven! Don’t ignore the power of social networking. There are plenty of social media sites that enable you to keep in touch with your friends and partners. Take advantage of these sites so that you combat loneliness. Also, talking on the phone is no sin. Make calls once in a while!
Take a Break
The moment loneliness starts creeping in you should take a break. You should stop doing whatever you are doing and either refocus yourself or go for a short walk to come back refreshed. That will motivate you.
Banishing loneliness may not be really easy but reducing the feeling to the minimum is very much possible.
Loneliness can have a significantly negative impact on you. Loneliness is common among freelancers and those who have just started. In order to curb that you should take a few measures such as changing your location of work, taking a break, listening to music, and social networking.
