Social media has taken all of us by storm. It has been a huge help for business because it lets us connect to our customers directly and actually understand what they expect from us. Such communication has helped us become better with time. However, not every company uses social media properly. While proper use of social media can help you boost your sales, improper use will do the exact opposite for you.

Facebook is a frontrunner and almost every business has a Facebook page today. Simply creating a page is not enough. Making proper use of it to first bring in followers and then ensure that the followers stay is supremely important. Many people go wrong here and all the time they spend on Facebook in a quest to attract public goes down the drain.

May be you are among these people too. May be you are using Facebook wrong. Here are some bad Facebook habits to educate you so that you don’t do the same or simply stop doing them immediately.

Posting a picture and asking for likes or posting a status and asking for likes and shares will work once in a while. NOT always! Focus on posting excellent status messages and pictures so that they automatically get likes. Don’t start begging every time you put up something. That will not help your case at all.

The best thing to do would be to ask for likes or shares only when you want to spread the word about some update in your products or business. That makes sense. Always begging does not.

Advertising Desperately

There are businesses that go to the extent of purchasing stock photographs and uploading them all the time on Facebook. The worst part is that these pictures have absolutely nothing to do with their business or brand! Stock photographs let out a stink of desperate advertising and we all know that people will not pay attention to advertising at all.

You should instead invest in clicking pictures about your products, office members, behind-the-scenes, and so on. You should invest in clicking pictures about YOU.

Posting Inappropriate Stuff

I have seen businesses posting inappropriate stuff like tragedies and then trying to use them to their benefit. I mean, seriously? Take my word and don’t comment on each and everything that happens across the globe. If it has something to do with your brand, you can go ahead. Otherwise, steer clear.

Not Listening

There are people who will post extremely long updates and comments. These are the people who barely listen. You need to stop talking immediately. You need to LISTEN more than you speak. Keep your updates short. Don’t try squeezing four calls-for-action together in one update. That will not help you at all.

Keep it short and relevant.

If you have been doing any of these, it is time to stop immediately. If you have just started on Facebook, please make sure you don’t do any of these. Learn from others’ mistakes!

Entrepreneurial Learning

Facebook can be a boon to you if you use it right. Sadly, people make tons of mistakes on Facebook and end up losing their customers, let alone attract new ones. Try not being a part of that league. Steer clear of mistakes that others make.
