Sports EntrepreneurshipSports entrepreneurship is all about organizing, operating, and assuming the risk for a sport-related business venture. Entrepreneurship is a discipline that can be taught and practiced by an individual interested in succeeding in any business. An entrepreneur is used to describe an individual who organises and operates a business and takes the financial risk to do so.

All an individual needs to know is to keep abreast with current affairs touching on any discipline of sports within your location, or region, or abroad. This is one area dreaded by many, simply because of fear of the unknown. It’s time for people to diversify their dreams of thinking and re-write the rules governing entrepreneurship.

Considering that fact, perhaps, you may need credit capital to start up this kind of business, and one must be extra articulate when drafting a business plan or proposal to solicit funding. You should be elaborate and vivid in your proposal, with clear and feasible strategy on how your business would make profit to enable you to service your loan. Soliciting funds successfully and servicing back is a long short objective, I should say. Being able to sustain a business by having surplus funds after deducting the loan instalments should be the primary long term envisions of your going into entrepreneurship.

You don’t have to be a professional in any field of sport, though if you were one it would be an added advantage. The passion of giving the best to your targeted clients can take you to greater heights than those who might have a professional background.

Running a professional sports franchise with management skills, one can open up a sports tour & travels, sporting good stores, sport facilities, athletic clubs and organizations, sport bars, and health clubs. You can spice up your center by offering fitness clothing, individual training sessions, and a nutritional food line complete with sports drinks, protein shakes, power bars, and vitamins. Having in mind that the younger demographic in the society are overwhelmed by issues such as obesity, one will have a ready clientèle that will sustain his or her business.

The geographic position of Kenya is so favorable that the climate is good through most parts of the year to organize sports tourism for people interested in having opportunities to explore the serenity of the country side en route as they travel to other destinations. Many flights touch down in Nairobi and this is another reason which gives the country a very strong reason for tempting clients.

June of next year will see a boom in tourism as the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be hosted in Brazil, and national teams can decide to choose to camp in Kenya and train before taking a flight to their final destination. With the sports bill 2012 becoming a law, the relevant ministry can expedite the implementation of the law and create adequate facilities that will not only benefit the country but the international community as well.

The government could also encourage entrepreneurs to venture into this field as a way of opening up more job options as well as in the newly-discovered oil fields, rather than relying on the agricultural sector. If all these avenues are properly utilized then we can comfortably talk of making the citizens of Kenya a middle-income group by 2030.

Entrepreneurs, who are known for being risk takers, should try breaking away from the conventional businesses and try to do something different. In sports entrepreneurship you stand a chance to expand your business horizons with limited competitions since not many have thought of going this way.
