Do you have a great product or service? Is that enough for you? But, what is a business without customers? It is essential for any business to be successful is to have customers, and having repeat customers, who keep bringing in more and more business can be truly wonderful. But, how do you retain a customer and what is the trick to hold on to him and make him come again and again with repeat business.

If retaining customers and securing repeat business seems to be your problem, then here are few tips for you, which if followed can work wonders for your business.

1. Think like a customer

As a businessman, think like a customer and it is essential to have the mindset of a customer. Step into their shoes to understand how your product or service is received, whether it is attractive in its looks, how good is the performance, and how does it rank in the competition. No one in the market will buy your product unless there is a need for it – a demand for it. Only if the product meets the demands of the customer will he purchase it.

Putting a product in the market, promoting it, and waiting to make money is not good business. People will not buy anything and everything because it is at their disposal. They must have a need and the product must meet that need exceptionally well.

2. What’s in it for them?

Incentives would come to your mind when thinking like a customer. Have you ever asked yourself the question – ‘What is in it for me?’ Well, most people do. What is the ‘extra’ thing that you can attach to your product or service? Hold on to your customers by enforcing their allegiance to your brand through its sheer quality. What is it that you can do to hold on to your customers? You can offer cash discounts, discount vouchers, service vouchers or similar things for the use of your products or services. You could try to offer them a ‘membership’ card that provides discounts on products or grant coupons on other services when a product or service is purchased or offer free articles on your website to help them make educated buying decisions.
Offering incentives captivates consumers and reinforces their decision to use your products/services.

3. Out of sight, out of mind

One of the difficult things that most people find is communicating with their customers. Remember to be in constant touch with your customers. This can be done through direct mails, emails, blog posts, or newsletters. People are confronted with a myriad of information all day, so they have to be reminded of your company and your product and what you have to offer them. Advertising and marketing is an interminable process and regardless of how popular your brand of service or product is, it is necessary for your brand to always remain on their lips, eyes, and minds of your present and potential customers.

4. Know their thoughts

Customers are one of the greatest sources of information – whether it is bouquets or brickbats – for any business. Your own colleagues within the company will offer accolades while competitors will oblige you with caustic comments, but your customers are sure to be very truthful with you. Have you ever considered using surveys to discover the thoughts of your consumers? When you are serving your customers, wouldn’t it make sense to collect their thought and opinions?
You can gain a lot of insight into what their likes and dislikes about your product and service are.

5. Keep them engaged

You may have a great product or service to satisfy the customer. But, to keep them satisfied you will have to keep sending them literature, updates about your product or service, promotions, discounts, and incentives. Build a bond and create a long-lasting relationship.

6. Share the vision

Companies should train their marketing and advertising departments to emulate their sentiments of their customers. The training will help them value the customer and understand them. This universal sentiment should be instilled in each worker to satisfy the customer and promote the tenacity of the business brand.
