As an entrepreneur you might be expected to speak at a number of occasions often addressing large gatherings. You might have or not have had the experience of public speaking. How do you carry yourself then in front of a decent crowd? Do you stutter? Do you shudder? Or are you one of those natural orators who can rise up to any occasion and talk naturally and freely with no prior preparation? The last one is a rare exception. Spontaneous speech is a rare quality. But here’s how you can kind of get in a better form:

Watch how you project yourself

If you look conscious of yourself, then you are sure to make blunders. Firstly, know that you are looking fine. You are there because people are willing to listen to you. Take this as an opportunity to deliver the message you always wanted to. Know that you are talking to people who are like you who are ready to receive your thoughts and perceptions.

Watch the body language

As you walk up to the dais, don’t shudder. Walk with ease. Smile as you stand in front of everybody and make an eye-contact. Take deep breadths if need be before you begin to talk. This is surely going to relax you. Don’t clasp your fingers and don’t look away from the audience. They will be in appreciation of you if they heard you speak to them, and not to the walls.

Voice-modulation

This may require some rehearsal at home. But a shrill voice or a tough voice can’t get the audience to listen to you. Don’t be loud than what’s required. As you may use the microphone, just be as audible as is needed. Sound pleasant and get over the fear that may reflect in the voice.

Introduce humor

It is good to be humorous. This will prevent your audience from digressing away from the talk. It will relax you as the speaker as well. To see the audience enjoy will encourage you to carry on with the talk.

Do your homework

No matter what kind of subject expert you are, it is essential to have your points to be mentioned in a clear and succinct way. Abraham Lincoln would practise a speech for nothing less than 40 times a day standing in front of his mirror. That is the kind of dedication you may need to show. Nevertheless, be flexible in your talk to choose appropriate words relating to the subject, make room to answer any questions, and should you come up with a different loop, know how to come back to what you were saying earlier.

Entrepreneurial learning

Public speaking is a skill. As entrepreneurs it is essential that you are prepared to face a good number of people and do the talk. Learn how to make it meaningful as you walk away confidently.
