How to manage supply and distribution

Company’s success depends on the satisfaction of the customers. Customers are satisfied only when the company distributes its products and services on time. It is a challenging task to manage supply and distribution. Delays can lead to loss of name and fame. It is always better to deliver products before the due date, rather than after the due date. Distribution is also related to cost, so it’s very important to monitor it carefully and have proper distribution management.

Here are some tips to manage supply and distribution:

Identify your target market

Identify the target area. Make a note of the places of your customers. Check if your customers are in the same city / country or are they in a different country. Organize them into local and global customers. Also check for the product requirement. Are there more requirements from global customers or is it with the local customers. More global customers, more distribution channels or mediums are required.

Distribution Head

Appoint an efficient and responsible person as the distribution head. He/she should coordinate the entire work of supply and distribution. Do the networking well. Maintain a good list of courier services and other channels of distribution. Research about the prices and time required for distributing your materials. Look for channels with lesser price, but also look for quality of the work. The distribution head is responsible for all the distribution; related issues should be sorted out by him/her. He/she should constantly track the process of supply and distribution. Contact the distribution channel regularly, to know the current status. Also, contact the customer after the product has been delivered.

Providing the right details

Provide the right names and addresses to your distribution mediums. Take down the correct address. Reconfirm the details again to avoid delays and confusion. Ask your customers to mail or text details for clarity. Maintain the list of names, address and contact numbers to get back to your customers. Mail, text or write clearly the details to your distribution agent too. Write in capitals to avoid confusion. Mention the pin code or area codes to facilitate easy distribution.

Strict terms and conditions

Follow a strict pattern of terms and conditions towards the distribution channel. Reduce the payment of the distribution channel in case of delays in delivery. Apply fines accordingly. In case of product damage, charges should be compensated for other delivery charges. If damaged products are delivered to your customers, give them gifts to regain confidence. Make calls to apologize to your customers in matters of delay.

Supply and distribution are two essential elements to any business. Delays in supply can disappoint your customers. Never compromise on these two elements. Appoint responsible people to take care of supply and distribution. Regularly follow up to track the progress. Work out in advance with the courier services so that it costs lesser.
